MANILA, Philippines — Visibly fewer passengers trooped to the Araneta Bus Terminal on Thursday morning, a day before the observance of “Undas.”

Photos by INQUIRER.net show that queues were short for bus trips at the terminal and almost non-existent at the ticketing booths inside the terminal.

This is despite the fact that it is the last day for passengers to go home to their provinces to visit their departed loved ones on time for All Saints’ Day.

Nonetheless, law enforcement personnel are still present at the terminal to monitor the situation and ensure the safety and security of the passengers.

Personnel from the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the Land Transportation Office, and even the Quezon City Task Force for Transport and Traffic Management were present at the terminal.

First-aid responders were also stationed at the terminal in case some passengers would need immediate help.

MMDA chairman Danilo Lim led the inspection of the terminal’s facilities, as well as the agency’s personnel deployment on Thursday morning.

The MMDA conducted breath analyzer tests on bus drivers and checked the road worthiness of the buses.

“Ginagawa natin ito para sa kaligtasan at kaayusan, kaligtasan lalo na sa mga pasahero natin,” Lim told reporters in an interview after he inspected the terminal. /je
