Murder raps vs killers of slain columnist, companion filed
MANILA, Philippines — Murder charges have been filed against the suspects in the killing of a tabloid columnist and his companion in Arayat, Pampanga on October 20, the government’s media task force said Wednesday.
Joel Egco, executive director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), said charges of double murder have been filed against the primary suspect Armando Velasco.
His two accomplices, Edgardo Cabrera and a “John Doe,” were also charged.
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar hailed the speedy development of the case.
“I congratulate the PTFoMS, the PNP and everyone who worked hard in accomplishing the mission this early. We are indeed very grateful for your work,” Andanar said.
Columnist Jupiter Gonzales and his companion Christopher Tiongson were ambushed in Barangay Cacutud, Arayat town at 10:30 p.m. on October 20. /je
