CBCP asks for prayers after quake hits parts of Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Tuesday called for prayers following the magnitude 6.6 quake that hit parts of Mindanao.

Davao Archbishop and CBCP President Romulo Valles asked for prayers for the people of the Diocese of Kidapawan, Archdiocese of Cotabato, Diocese of Marbel, Diocese of Digos, Archdiocese of Davao, Diocese of Tagum, and Diocese of Mati.

“Please pray to the Lord that we may remain calm and alert. And pray also that we will continue to care and be watchful and concerned for each other during this time of fear and anxiety,” Valles said in a statement.

Valles said that when the quake happened, they all ran out of the Archbishop’s Residence in Davao City for safety.

Citing initial information they received, Valles said one big a fairly new and modern building in Davao City suffered serious damage and two civilians reportedly died in Koronadal City in South Cotabato and Magsaysay in Davao del Sur.

“May the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother, accompany and watch over us always,” Valles said.
