MANILA, Philippines — There is no tsunami threat following the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that hit Tulunan in North Cotabato on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
“Sa coastal areas po, wag po sila mag-alala, walang tsunami mangyayari kasi well in land, nasa kalupaan po ang paglindol,” Phivolcs officer-in-charge and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Renato Solidum said in a press briefing.
But Solidum warned of possible aftershocks and advised residents to go out of their houses if they observe any damage.
“Sa atin pong mga kababayan, posible pa po magkaroon ng aftershocks na pwedeng magpadagdag pa ng sira ng mga bahay at gusali kaya dapat yung may sira, dapat munang nasa labas sila at hindi gagamitin at ipa-inspect sa mga engineers kung okay pa ba o hindi,” Solidum said.
The 6.6-magnitude earthquake was felt in various parts of Mindanao which resulted to the suspension of classes of some local government units (LGUs). /je
