A dog placed in a compartment under a provincial bus bound for Masbate caused an uproar among animal lovers over the weekend. The operators of Raymond Bus eventually relocated the dog after a concerned citizen and the dog owner pleaded to let the dog stay inside the bus.
Larry Andrew Molina, the concerned citizen who uploaded the dog’s photos in Facebook on Saturday, Oct. 26, spotted the bus along Cubao. He was in a Grab ride when he noticed the dog.
“Mga bossing tama ba to? (Sir, is this right?)” Molina asked. “Yung aso nasa ilalim na compartment na malapit na mismo sa makina ng bus? Nakapaka init niyan. Mamatay yan.”
(The dog is under the bus in a compartment near the engine. It is too hot there. The dog will die.)
He narrated that they tried to chase after the bus, but was caught in traffic. Molina himself needed to catch a ride on his way to Bicol.
“Tahol ng tahol yung aso kaya nakita namin. It means di siya [k]omportable dun.”
(The dog kept on barking, that’s how we saw it. It means it was not comfortable there.)
Molina added that the dog’s cage has been wrecked, which could mean that the dog may have tried getting out of the compartment.
He later updated his post, stating that the operators eventually allowed the dog to stay inside the bus. In another photo, the dog can be seen seated with its owner.
Molina thanked the public for their cooperation and concern, including the dog’s owner, who he was personally able to talk to.
“Wag po natin siyang husgaan or what. Kase pinag laban niya din yung karapatan ng aso po,” he said in defense of the owner.
(Let us not judge the owner for whatever reason, because the owner also fought for the dog’s rights.)
The dog reached Masbate safely, Molina stated in a comment to his post yesterday, Oct. 27, accompanied by a photo of the dog standing near the bus exit.
He also has a few words to some bashers who insisted that the compartment near the engine is meant for keeping animals: “try niyo po pumasok dun tapos mga 14hrs kayo andun. Nasa likod kayo mismo ng makina ng bus. Sobrang init. Try niyo lang po.”
(You can try getting in that compartment and stay there for 14 hours. You will be right behind the engine of the bus. It is too hot there. Just try it.) JB
