Manileños given another dose of discipline in ‘Tapat Ko, Linis Ko’ ordinance
MANILA, Philippines – Manila government has implemented a rule that punishes those who will fail to maintain cleanliness and orderliness in their respective areas.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno signed the Ordinance No. 8572, also known as “Tapat Ko Linis Ko” ordinance, which mandated owners, lessee or occupant of a residential or commercial establishment to keep their areas clean.
The ordinance prohibited the hanging of clothes and other items in windows, electrical wires and posts.
Under the ordinance, it is also unlawful to wash and dry clothes in the gutter, sidewalks, streets, alleyways and roads.
The ordinance also prohibited leaving garbage in the gutter, sidewalks and other public areas.
Leaving pets to urinate or defecate outside their property line is also banned.
If a person wishes to use sidewalks, bridges, parks, alleys and other public places for a definite time or period, they must require a special permit from the local government.
Violators of the ordinance will receive a warning from the government on its first offense.
However, violators will pay a fine ranging from P500 to P5,000 or imprisonment of 30 days on their second and succeeding offenses.
