QC traffic enforcers warned vs accepting bribes

MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City (QC) Mayor Joy Belmonte on Thursday warned traffic enforcers that criminal and administrative charges await them if they accept bribes from erring motorists.

She issued the call as she praised a traffic enforcer of the Quezon City Task Force Traffic and Transport Management (TFTTM) for arresting a motorist who offered a P200 bribe after he was cited for illegal parking.

“Gawin natin nang tama ang ating tungkulin at huwag tayong magpadala sa tukso ng salapi na ikasisira ng ating kinabukasan,” Belmonte said in a statement.

(Let’s do what is right in our duties and not be carried away by the temptation of money which can ruin our future.)

According to the QC government, traffic enforcer Roberto Francisco was among those conducting a clearing operation along Katipunan Ave. when he saw the suspect’s van parked along the sidewalk.

When he asked for the suspect’s license and issued him a ticket, the suspect placed P200 in Francisco’s hand.

Francisco subsequently apprehended the motorist, after which he was brought to the Anonas Police Station 9 where he was charged for violation of City Ordinance No. SP-1444 and Article 212 of the Revised Penal Code. /je
