MANILA, Philippines — Maynilad Water Services Inc. will implement rotational water supply service interruptions of up to 19 hours starting Thursday night (Oct. 24) due to low water level in Angat and Ipo dams.
Scarce rain showers over the Angat and Ipo watersheds caused the decreasing water level in the two dams, Maynilad said.
It added that water allocation to the concessionaire remained at 40 cubic meters per second (CMS) from the normal 48 CMS.
“Kaya naman kapos ang araw water supply na pumapasok sa Ipo Dam at sa water treatment facilities ng Maynilad (The water supply coming to Maynilad’s water treatment facilities is insufficient),” the west zone concessionaire said in a statement.
“Ang isasagawang rotational water service interruption ay bahagi rin ng paghahanda para sa tag-araw sa susunod na taon, sakaling hindi pa rin maabot ang inaasahang 212 meters na water level ng Angat Dam bago matapos ang taon (The rotational water service interruption is also part of the preparations for the dry season next year, in case the targeted 212-meter water level of Angat Dam will not be achieved before the year ends),” it added.
Parts of cities Caloocan, Makati, Malabon, Manila, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon City, Valenzuela, and Bacoor will be affected by the water supply interruptions, Maynilad said.

Maynilad encouraged its consumers to start storing water and use water responsibly.
It also assured its costumers that the concessionaire is taking steps to mitigate the limited water supply, such as building water treatment and storage facilities, activating deep wells, supply and pressure management, and adding mobile treatment plants.
“Siguruhin na malinis at may takip ang inyong imbakan ng tubig. Pagbalik ng supply matapos ang service interruption, padaluyin ang tubig hanggang sa luminaw ito (Make sure that storage for the water is clean and capped. Once the water supply is back, just let the water flow until it becomes clear),” Maynilad said.
Manila Water has also announced it will implement water service interruptions starting Thursday night./ac
