A family in Tokyo welcomed its latest addition while on board a train on Monday, Oct. 21. The baby was born at Ikebukuro station, known as one of the busiest stations in the city.
A pregnant passenger was with her husband and two kids on the Shonan-Shinjuku line at around 5 p.m. when she felt ill, Japan Today reported today, Oct. 24. It turned out that she had gone into labor. Another passenger in the late-afternoon ride pressed the emergency button to inform station staff that a woman was about to give birth.
An emergency response team and station staff were on standby at Ikebukuro station. Upon the train’s arrival, they assisted in the birth of the baby girl.
The mother and her infant were taken to the hospital and are reported to be in good condition amid the circumstances of the birth. Niña V. Guno /ra
