MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, on Tuesday floated the idea of raising the retirement age of police officers from 56 to 60.
Gamboa cited the two years that were added to the basic education curriculum due to the K-12 program in explaining his point.
“Probably it can go to 58. Pwede naman kahit hanggang 60 (It can go to up to 60),” he said in an interview with DZMM.
But in case the retirement age for police officers is eventually adjusted, Gamboa said he wants it implemented in the “next generation.”
Gamboa was named PNP OIC after erstwhile PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde was linked to the “ninja cops” controversy.
Gamboa is the current PNP deputy chief for administration — the second-highest position in the organization — and is one of the candidates to become the 23rd PNP chief. /gsg
