MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced on Tuesday that it has issued show-cause orders against 101 local government units (LGUs) that failed to comply in the nationwide road-clearing drive.

Malaya said the show-cause orders were based on the evaluation conducted by the DILG on the reports of accomplishment of 1,516 LGUs on the 60-day road clearing campaign.

Initially, the previously announced number of LGUs that failed in the campaign was 97 based on 1,235 LGUs evaluated by the DILG.

“The DILG has already issued show-cause orders to these 101 LGUs, and we are awaiting their reply on why they were not able to comply with the President’s directive and why they should not be suspended,” Jonathan Malaya, DILG Spokesperson and Undersecretary for Plans, Public Affairs and Communication, said in a press briefing.

Meanwhile, the DILG will also issue show-cause orders against 99 barangays in the City of Manila, according to Martin Diño, DILG’s undersecretary for Barangay Affairs.

According to Malaya, the “highly-compliant” LGUs on the road-clearing drive rose by 18 percent from the previously announced 327 to 387.

The number of LGUs that recorded “medium compliance” in the campaign also rose by 28 percent from previous announced 498 to 635.

Meanwhile, LGUs that were graded “low-compliant” rose by 22 percent from 323 to 393. /jpv
