DIGOS CITY—Aftershocks that followed a magnitude 6.3 quake in Davao del Sur province on Sunday prompted the suspension of classes here on Monday, Oct. 21.

Mayor Josef Cagas announced the class suspension on social media.

The mayor was ready to revoke a previous order suspending classes in all levels when aftershocks as strong as magnitude 5.1 hit the city.

Cagas, however, asked teachers and non-teaching school employees to return to work.

The mayor urged the public to report any damage on buildings and structures that would be caused by the aftershocks.

On Sunday, a magnitude 4.9 quake struck past 7 p.m. and traced to the town of Tulunan, Cotabato. Volcanologists said it was one of the aftershocks of the 6.3 magnitude quake that shook Cotabato and parts of Mindanao last Oct. 16.
