Senate to pay tribute to former Senate President Nene Pimentel

MANILA, Philippines — Former and incumbent senators are set to pay tribute to former Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel on Wednesday.

The necrological service is scheduled for 10 a.m., according to a statement issued by the Senate which has been flying its flag half-mast since Pimentel passed away on Sunday.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III will receive the remains of Pimentel at the foyer of the Senate building’s main entrance, together with former and current senators, Senate Secretary Myra Villarica, Sergeant-At-Arms Rene Samonte, secretariat officials and employees.

Sotto will also present a resolution to Pimentel’s family, expressing the Senate’s sympathy and condolences over the passing of the former Senate leader.

The late senator’s son, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, is expected to accept the resolution.

Among those who will deliver eulogies for Pimentel are Sotto, Senator Pia Cayetano, and former Senators Heherson Alvarez, Anna Dominique Coseteng, and Jose Lina Jr.

Pimentel passed away at 5 a.m. on Sunday. He was 85 years old.

The Pimentel patriarch’s death came less than a week after he was put in an intensive care unit (ICU) last October 14.
