11 suspected NPA rebels surrender in Masbate

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — At least 11 suspected members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered on Thursday afternoon to the Masbate police, a report said Friday.

Bicol police spokesperson Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib said three of the surrendered rebels were alleged regular NPA members while the rest were mass-based members of the Larangan Guerilla North Masbate of the NPA’s Jose Rapsing Command operating in Masbate province.

The rebel surrenderers are all residents of Barangay (village) Igang in Masbate City, police said.

The surrender ceremony was held at around 1:30 p.m. at the Masbate 1st Provincial Mobile Force Command Headquarters in Camp Bonny Serrano in Masbate City.

Police said the surrenderers yielded two caliber 357 revolvers and a caliber 38 revolver. /muf
