LUCENA CITY, Philippines – Quezon province won its second Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
On Thursday, DILG-Region IV A, announced on its Facebook page, that Quezon and the municipalities of Guinayangan, Gumaca, Mauban, Panukulan and Sampaloc were among the 33 local government units in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) that have passed the much-coveted SGLG for 2019.
Governor Danilo Suarez has expressed gratitude to the DILG for its recognition of the provincial government “genuine and competent service to the people.”
Suarez said the award will serve as inspiration for all provincial officials and workers to continuously provide quality service for their province mates.
In 2017, Quezon province then under the governorship of now, Rep. David Suarez, son of Danilo, was also one of the recipients of the prestigious SGLG award.
Aside from Quezon, the other SGLG provincial awardees in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region this year, include Laguna and Rizal.
On April 12 this year, President Rodrigo Duterte institutionalized the SGLG award through the enactment of the Seal of Good Local Governance Act of 2019.
Under the law, the SGLG refers to “an award, incentive, honor and recognition-based program for all LGUs, and is a continuing commitment for LGUs to continually progress and improve their performance.”
The DILG said the SGLG is a progressive assessment system that gives local government units distinction for their remarkable performance across various governance areas such as financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, business-friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, and tourism, culture and the arts. /muf
