Magnitude 5.2 quake hits off Davao Occidental

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.2 quake was recorded off Davao Occidental on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 9:28 a.m., with its epicenter located 144 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos town in Davao Occidental.

The quake was of tectonic origin and had a depth of 61 kilometers.

Phivolcs initially reported that the quake’s magnitude was 5.3 and had a depth of 6 kilometers.

Phivolcs said aftershocks are not to be expected following the quake.

The earthquake came after the magnitude 6.3 quake that hit North Cotabato and nearby provinces on Wednesday night

Phivolcs has yet to confirm if the Davao Occidental quake is related to Wednesday night’s quake./muf
