LOOK: ‘Pinoy Hachiko’ Buboy honored with statue

MANILA, Philippines — Buboy, the stray dog who became viral on social media for patiently waiting by the door of his dead master’s college faculty room,  has been immortalized with his own statue several months after he passed on.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) showed a photo of Buboy’s statue, which was erected in the foundation’s animal cemetery in Capas, Tarlac.

The dog, who has come to be known as the Filipino version of the loyal Japanese Akita Hachiko, broke netizens’ hearts last May over his story.

Buboy was known to be the loyal pet of a college professor in Pampanga. The dog used to follow the professor around the Mabalacat College City premises.
