A man was jailed for stealing money from a bank to cover the costs of his wedding venue and ring.
Heath Edward Bumpous robbed the Citizens State Bank in Groveton, Virginia in the United States last Friday, Oct. 4.
Following the incident, officers from the Trinity County Sheriff took to Facebook on the same day to post photos of the suspect and warn the public.
His fiancée (name withheld in the report) later saw the photos of him shared on the social media platform. She then contacted Bumpous and convinced himself to turn himself in to the authorities, sheriff Woody Wallace said in a video on Facebook on the same day.
Heeding his bride-to-be’s advice, Bumpous went to the Houston County Courthouse and surrendered to an officer.
He then gave a full confession to Wallace and other officers who interviewed him at the courthouse. The authorities were able to retrieve some of the stolen money, along with some clothes Bumpous threw outside his car when he fled from the scene. An inspection of his car also led the officers to find a gun inside it.
As to why Bumpous robbed the bank, Wallace said he intended to use the money to pay for a wedding ring and the venue of his wedding, which was scheduled the next day.
After the interview with the authorities, Bumpous was booked into the Trinity County Jail with a charge of aggravated robbery. JB
