LEGAZPI CITY –– Senator Cynthia Villar believed that having modern farm tools and equipment was necessary for a bountiful farm produce, which could lead to food security in the country.

Villar, who served as the guest speaker during the 18th Vegetable Congress held at the Albay Astrodome here on Tuesday, said farmers in the country have been left behind when it comes to using technology in farming.

“Our agriculture is not efficient that is why we are having problems,” she said, adding the absence of mechanization and technology.

She said farmers also lacked knowledge on how to manage a profitable business “that’s why we have to teach that to farmers.”

Villar said the agriculture sector would benefit if farmers used modern farm tools as harvest and production would be easier and doubled.

“If this will materialize, the income of every farmer will be rewarding,” she said.

Villar also encouraged and promoted farm tourism as it could also contribute to the country’s economy./lzb
