MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Quad-Intel Force will provide to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) the names of the agency’s personnel allegedly in cahoots with convicted drug lords at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) and inmates of the state penitentiary on the drugs watchlist.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said providing the list of names to BuCor chief Gerald Bantag will help the latter craft security measures to hinder convicted drug lords from supervising their respective syndicates despite being behind bars.
He said the names of BuCor personnel and NBP inmates were included in the list based on intelligence reports from the four agencies composing the Quad-Intel Force: the NCRPO, the Metro Manila units of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and National Bureau of Investigation, and the Joint Task Force-NCR of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
“Ito ay bahagi ng tulong ng Quad-Intel Force sa malawakang reporma ni Director General Bantag sa NBP. Kung ang mga inmates na ito ay patuloy ang kanilang operasyon sa Bilibid sa tulong ng mga tiwaling personnel, ang mga mamamayan lalong-lalo na sa Metro Manila ang patuloy na magdudusa sa paglaganap ng droga at mga krimen na dahil sa droga,” Eleazar said in a statement on Tuesday.
(This is part of the help of the Quad-Intel Force for the massive reform being conducted by Director General Bantag at the NBP. If these inmates continue their operation at Bilibid through the help of corrupt personnel, then the citizens, especially those in Metro Manila, will continue to suffer in the proliferation of drugs and crime caused by drugs.)
Eleazar, who had initiated the creation of the group, did not disclose the number of BuCor personnel and NBP inmates on the list.
“Ang importante dito ay ang magandang koordinasyon at pagtutulungan ng lahat ng law enforcement agency para matapos na ang problema sa droga dahil ito ang utos ng Pangulong Duterte,” he said.
(What is important here is the good coordination and contribution of all law enforcement agencies to end the problem on drugs because this is the order of President Rodrigo Duterte.)
Bantag is currently conducting a vetting process of all prison guards and personnel of the NBP over allegations of massive corruption in the state penitentiary that allowed convicted drug lords to operate their crooked practices.
Last Friday, Bantag has ordered the relief from post of 300 prison guards at the NBP for “various irregularities.” They were temporarily replaced by 551 personnel from the NCRPO. /je
