Pasig gov’t padlocks meat processing plant for untreated sewage

MANILA, Philippines — The Pasig City government on Tuesday shut down a meat processing plant for allegedly having no wastewater facility.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto announced that operations of the meat processing plant in Bagong Ilog was stopped as waste water from it was polluting the city’s drainage system and the Pasig River.

“They have had no STP (sewage treatment plant) for years. Their waste water (OFTEN WITH BLOOD) was going into our drainage system and into our river,” Sotto  said in a tweet.

Sewage treatment plants are required under the Clean Water Act of 2004 to ensure that wastewater is first filtered and treated before being disposed. /muf
