MANILA, Philippines – The 13 so-called ninja cops who were summoned to the Senate investigation have been placed in“floating status,” Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.

“Sa ngayon, dahil meron na ongoing investigation ang Senado, maituturing natin sila na ‘floating status,’” PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said in a press briefing.

(For now, because of an ongoing investigation at the Senate, they are considered in floating status.)

Initially, 13 police officers were ordered dismissed but they were demoted by one rank after filing a motion for reconsideration in March 2016.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong previously revealed the names of the 13 policemen who were allegedly involved in the controversial 2013 anti-drug operations in Mexico, Pampanga.

When asked if the ninja cops were relieved, Banac said they were expecting a “relief order” from PNP after the Senate probe.

“Inaasahan natin na magkaroon ng relief order ang mga ito, tatapusin natin talaga ang pagdinig sa Senado,” he said.

(We are hoping that they will receive a relief order. We are just waiting for the Senate hearing to be finished.)
