One-way traffic scheme to ease traffic on SLEx
MANILA, Philippines — The Muntinlupa City government will implement a one-way traffic scheme on the East Service Road of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) to address the worsening traffic in the city due to the ongoing Skyway extension project.
The new traffic scheme will take effect before Oct. 13, according to the Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau chief Danidon Nolasco.
This was agreed upon during a meeting on Monday among city officials; San Miguel Corp. Tollways, the operator of SLEx and Skyway; construction firm EEI Corp.; and transport groups and representatives from affected villages and businesses. The one-way traffic will be implemented on the East Service Road from Alabang Viaduct to Sucat Interchange.
On the other hand, the West Service Road and Baybayin Road (network of streets by Laguna de Bay) will remain two-way.
Commuters and drivers have been enduring slower traffic on SLEx since the closure of the Skyway at-grade’s outermost northbound lane right after the Alabang Viaduct on Sept. 24 for the elevated highway’s extension project. —Dexter Cabalza
