It’s last day for voters registration

MANILA, Philippines — Voters who wish to register have until Monday to do so, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

The Comelec said it expected an influx of last-minute registrants as its two-month-long registration period ends even as Congress is set to postpone the village and youth polls.

“The Comelec has anticipated this and we are confident that our employees in the field are prepared to handle the last-day registration scenario,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 10549, if there is still a queue by the end of the registration period, the poll body will list down the names of those individuals within a 30-meter radius of the election office by 3 p.m. on Monday.

“Applicants who are not present when their names are called shall no longer be allowed to file their application,” the Comelec said.

An express lane will be provided for persons with disabilities, senior citizens and pregnant applicants.

As of Sept. 21, the number of applications processed nationwide had reached 2,645,446.

The registration period started on Aug. 1. —TINA G. SANTOS
