Life lessons the hearing can learn from the Deaf

[This is the fifth and concluding part in a series of INQUIRER.net’s special reports on the Philippine Deaf community and Filipino Sign Language.]

Communicating in a different way allows members of the Deaf community to observe instances that some hearing people overlook.

The Deaf community has its own culture which others can learn from. When asked to share about it, topics that were touched on were sensitivity, respect and self-expression. As the Deaf shared insights on life, they also emphasized the value of sharing information. Taking the time to converse and exchange ideas with them is one of the ways the hearing can help their community. NVG
