Commotion at Pasay City Jail leaves 2 officers hurt

Two Pasay City Jail officers were wounded on Thursday in a  commotion caused by inmates who refused to be transferred to another jail facility.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) spokesperson Chief Insp. Xavier Solda said that Jail Officers 1 Jeremy Addawe and Jessie Boy Alverio suffered stab wounds caused by the pointed edges of broken monoblock chairs and other objects thrown by inmates.

The commotion started past 1 p.m. when eight inmates of the city jail’s male dormitory and four others refused to be moved to a BJMP facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City.

The situation was defused several hours later after the warden negotiated with the inmates.  —Dexter Cabalza
