Dengue cases in Bicol decreasing

LEGAZPI CITY –– The Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol has observed a downtrend of dengue cases in the region, after a spike in the past months.

Dr. Ernie Vera, director of DOH in Bicol, said that from January to September 21, they have recorded 8,227 dengue cases with 63 deaths.

But based on their monitoring, Vera said the illness and death rates have dropped compared to earlier months.

The dengue hotspots have also decreased from over a hundred to 93 villages in the 33 towns and cities across the region.

Records from the DOH showed that Camarines Sur still had the most number of dengue cases with 3,482, followed by Sorsogon with 1,708; Albay, 1,258; Catanduanes, 885; Masbate, 514; and Camarines Norte, 362.

Albay and Catanduanes were also placed under a state of calamity earlier because of the rising number of dengue cases. /lzb
