15 vehicles suspected to be stolen found at Parañaque casino

MANILA, Philippines – Personnel of the Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) have inspected 10 of 15 vehicles abandoned at a casino in Parañaque City that are suspected to be stolen.

Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz, PNP-HPG director, said the casino management reported to their unit the vehicles that had been abandoned at the casino for around a year, prompting them to check if the vehicles were stolen based on police records.

Cruz said the vehicles might have been rented from its registered owners. But they were not returned and eventually ended up in the hands of casino financiers – which he said was the modus operandi of “rent-tangay” or “rent-sangla” scam.

He said the police had found the registered owners of six of the 10 inspected vehicles based on records of the Land Transportation Office. He said these owners told the police they had already sold the vehicles to different buyers, but some of the owners were not able to present a deed of sale.

Aside from the sports utility vehicle and cars, the PNP-HPG also inspected a motorcycle that had been abandoned in the parking site of the casino. Four of the remaining vehicles have yet to be inspected.

Cruz said the vehicles remain at the casino pending further verification by the police.
