2 killed, 5 hurt in Masbate City road accident – police

MANILA, Philippines — Two persons were killed and five others were injured after a van crashed into a tricycle in Masbate City, police said Friday.

Marian Clores, the driver of the tricycle, and back-rider Nora Capellan died upon arrival at Masbate Provincial Hospital, shortly after the accident that occurred 12:10 p.m. Wednesday along the National Highway in Barangay Malinta, a report from Masbate City Police said.

Meanwhile, those injured from the incident were identified as Efren Alayon, Karen Alayon, Allysa Angel Basas, and John Rey Clores. They were all brought to the same hospital for treatment.

Police said the tricycle was traveling towards Masbate City when hit by the van being driven by Ricky Repollo Magno. The van was negotiating the opposite direction.

Police said Magno voluntarily surrendered to the Milagros Municipal Police Station in Masbate province.
