BOC seizes P53M misdeclared agri products from China

MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of  Customs  – Port of Manila (BOC-POM) seized nearly P53 million worth of misdeclared agricultural products from China.

BOC -POM District Collector Arsenia Ilagan on Wednesday reported that 16 shipping containers bearing the misdeclared items arrived in Manila last August 8, 2019.

The shipment was initially declared as fishballs with total declared duties and taxes of P2,542,882.00.

It was consigned to a certain Shinerise Trading Service and was processed by Customs Broker Johnna Philipian Cristobal Aceveda.

Upon inspection of the containers, however, BOC officials found an estimated  P20.080 million worth of carrots, P20.080 million worth of onions, P10.040 million worth of broccoli and P2.510 million worth of potatoes.

Hence, Ilagan ordered the cancelation of Shinerise Trading Service’s accreditation, while Acevada, was placed under investigation.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention was already issued by Ilagan against the shipment last September 4./gsg
