Suicide bombers may also target police stations, warns PNP

MANILA, Philippines — Suicide bombers could also possibly target police stations after an explosion near a military camp in Sulu over the weekend, the Philippine National Police (PNP) warned Tuesday.

“We gave instruction of PNP personnel to be vigilant kasi ‘di naman remote. It is a possibility also that they will also target police stations, hindi malayo ‘yun,” PNP chief General Oscar Albayalde said in a press briefing in Camp Crame when asked about his advice to police officers in Sulu.

Aside from police forces, Albayalde also cautioned communities in Sulu to be vigilant about suspicious individuals.

On Sunday, a suspected suicide bomber died after detonating an explosive near the detachment of the 35th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Kajatian in Indanan, Sulu.

The alleged female bomber – reportedly foreign-looking, tried to force her way into the military camp but was stopped by security personnel.

“We want to commend that sergeant ng Army. Alam niya gagawin niya na medyo suspicious ‘yung tao. He took cover at walang nasaktan,” Albayalde said.
