Youngest regional director for tourism assumes post

MANILA, Philippines — Jeff Ortega officially assumed his post on Monday as regional director for tourism — the youngest at 29 — after taking oath before Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat

“Finally assumed my post as the youngest Regional Director for Tourism in the Philippines today,” Ortega said an Instagram post.

“Thank you to President Rodrigo Duterte for strengthening the youth and giving us an opportunity to serve the Filipino people as well as to the current Secretary of Tourism [Bernadette Romulo-Puyat] for trusting me with the tough but exciting new job!” Ortega said.

“I still have a long way to go but I’m looking forward to gaining more experiences during my term with my new DOT (Department of Tourism) family,” he added.

In another Instagram post, Ortega revealed that it had always been his ambition to enter politics, but his passion was in tourism.

“Finally, i’m jumping in the political arena the best way I know after years of hard work! Thank you to Sec [Bernadette Romulo-Puyat] for trusting me and over all, letting the new generation contribute to the future development of our country. Can’t wait to get to work, Boss!” Ortega said.

Ortega is the boyfriend of actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith, who earlier said that she was hopeful that she would end up marrying him.
