DID YOU KNOW: The Pensionado Law

On Aug. 26, 1903, Act No. 854 or the Pensionado Law of the American government in the Philippines was approved by Governor-General William Howard Taft.

The law allowed qualified Filipino students to study as scholars in the United States.

Many scholars were admitted and later on returned to the country to fill positions in the government. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
