Village councilor dead, priest hurt in Laguna shooting

SAN PEDRO CITY –– Police were investigating a shooting incident that left a village councilor dead and a Catholic priest wounded in San Pablo City, Laguna.

Lt. Col. Eliseo Bernales, chief of the San Pablo City police, said Tuesday that Richard Galit died late Monday while undergoing an operation due to multiple bullet wounds.

Based on the police report, Galit, 36, a village councilor in Barangay 3-D, appeared to be the primary target of the attack.

Galit was driving his Toyota Fortuner along Shatelig Avenue when motorcycle-riding gunmen shot him as he slowed down on a traffic light.

Priest Mil Larano, who was driving his car just behind Galit, was hit by a stray bullet on his left shoulder.

Police said Larano was already in a stable condition.

Bernales, in a text message Tuesday, said they have yet to establish a clear motive of the attack. /lzb
