A dog became an unlikely hero after rescuing his owner from a shark attack in California, United States.
James White was fishing on July 21 when he snagged the shark on his line, as per NBC Bay Area last Thursday, Aug. 15.
When White was removing the 6-foot, sevengill shark from his fishing rod’s hook, the animal squirmed and sank its teeth into his leg.
“Immediately there was blood everywhere, the first bite punctured an artery,” White told the news outlet. “The pressure was intense.”
Unable to escape from the shark’s grasp, White cried for help. His pitbull Darby, who he left in his car, managed to escape and came to his rescue. Darby is 1 year old and weighs approximately 100 pounds.
Darby bit the shark’s gills which only resulted into the shark biting down harder on White. As per report, the dog then instead grabbed the shark by its tail, and was finally able to pull it off of White’s leg.
After the incident, White returned the shark back into the water. Ryan Arcadio/JB
