Cops: No explosives inside box found in Edsa-Shaw underpass
MANILA, Philippines – No explosive device was found inside the box found abandoned at the center island of the Edsa-Shaw underpass on Friday, police officials said.
In a message relayed by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, officers of the Eastern Police District said the box only contained waste materials and polystyrene foam or more commonly known as Styrofoam.

“Sir negative po for bomb, only waste materials, styrofoam, FYI,” the message forwarded by Eleazar said.
Earlier, one lane on each side of the underpass was closed to traffic as police inspected the concerned box.
Article continues after this advertisementHowever, police officials preferred to close the whole underpass as a precautionary measure while the Mandaluyong Police’s Explosive Ordinance Division (EOD) personnel were conducting disruption operations.
Authorities have yet to pinpoint who left the box at the center island. /jpv
