Laguna village chief gunned down in public market

SAN PEDRO CITY –– A village chief in Alaminos town in Laguna province was killed, while two bystanders were slightly injured in a shooting incident in a public market on Friday morning.

In a report from the Calabarzon police, investigators said Romeo Sagario, Barangay Captain of San Andres, had begun working at his meat stall when at least three gunmen attacked him around 4:30 a.m. at the town’s public market in Barangay Poblacion 3.

Stray bullets hit bystanders Marites Manalo on her finger and Rufo Manalo on his right foot.

Sagario was rushed to the San Pablo City Medical Center but died while being treated.

Police are still investigating the motive in the killing./lb
