CIDG-7 agents raid Mandaue cockpit arena for operating on weekdays

CEBU CITY—The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7) raided a cockpit arena in Barangay Estancia, Mandaue City past 4 p.m. on Monday for operating even on weekdays.

Police Major Edwin Lacostales, who headed the raid, said even if it has the permits, cockpits are only allowed during Sundays or when there are fiesta celebrations in the certain place as mandated under Presidential Decree 449 or the Cockfighting Law.

“Cockfighting should only be held on Sundays or special holidays,” he said.

According to the police, they noticed that the Mandaue City cockpit arena is operating daily.

Because of this, Lacostales said they launched an operation and confiscated the roosters including the money used in betting.

At least 200 individuals were also held for questioning by the CIDG-7.
