Cebu Pacific: Brace for possible flight delays, cancellations due to HK unrest
MANILA, Philippines – Cebu Pacific on Monday warned of possible flight delays and cancellations due to the ongoing protests in Hong Kong.
Cebu Pacific said it has been advised that the operations of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) are affected by the general strike on Monday.
“Due to reduced manpower, we may have prolonged delays or cancellation of some flights between Hong Kong and Manila, Clark, Cebu or Iloilo,” the airline said in a statement.
“In light of this, we strongly advise passengers with flights today to reconsider their travel plans,” it added.
Cebu Pacific said it will “waive all chargers for rebooking or refunds” for tickets booked on or before August 5 with travel dates on August 5 to 7.
It advised that passengers who do not need to travel on August 6 to 7 to allot more time and prepare for possible additional security measures and disruptions.
The airline said that should it cancel some flights, affected passengers will be informed via the contact details provided upon booking.
It will also post updated flight information on its website.
“We appeal for patience and understanding as we try to manage our operations in Hong Kong amidst the situation that is beyond our control,” Cebu Pacific said.
The two-month ongoing protest actions in Hong Kong were sparked by calls to withdraw an extradition bill that will send residents facing charges to mainland China to stand trial./gsg
