Tornado damages 11 houses, public market in 3 Northern Samar villages
TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 11 houses and a public market were damaged when a tornado hit three villages in Lavezares town in Northern Samar on Saturday morning.
Major Joseph Quilitano, the town’s police chief, said the incident happened around 9:30 a.m.
“It happened too quick, in just a matter of seconds. But it destroyed some houses where it struck,” said Quilitano in a phone interview.
Affected by the tornado were the coastal villages of Libas, Cataogan, and San Miguel.
The roofs of the town’s public market were also damaged.
Quilitano said the town was experiencing heavy and continuous rains when the tornado struck.
No one was hurt.
Quilitano said personnel of the Department of Public Works and Highways immediately cleared the debris. /lzb
