A woman from New York just turned 107 years old on Wednesday, July 31, and she manages to live on her own despite being legally blind.

Louise Signore can walk unassisted, does her own shopping and dances almost every day, CBS New York reported on Wednesday. The only medicine she takes is for her high blood pressure.

Her secret? Living alone—and being single. “I think the secret of 107: I never got married. I think that’s the secret. My sister says ‘I wish I never got married.’” Signore’s sister also enjoys a long life at 102 and does not take any maintenance medicine.

There is a downside to living alone: Signore has experienced an assault and robbery when she was 103 in her apartment building. But otherwise, she is surrounded by friends in her Bronx community.

The centenarian, who is of Italian heritage, has lived in the Bronx since she was 14. She remains active at a senior center where she exercises and dances.

She also credits Italian food for her longevity. “I was brought up with very good food. No soda, no cake.”

Signore celebrated her birthday at a Bronx community center. Over 100 guests attended, but she seemed less than impressed. “I said I’ve had enough parties.”  Niña V. Guno /ra
