Businessman nabbed for threatening, assaulting traffic enforcer in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — A gun-wielding Chinese-Filipino businessman was apprehended after he threatened and assaulted a policeman in Binondo, Manila on Tuesday night.

In a report from Binondo police station, two enforcers of Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) were patrolling along CM Recto Avenue corner T. Alonzo Street when suspect William Phi, 65, introduced himself as a law enforcer and threatened one of the enforcers with a gun.

MTPB enforcer Joseph Guiwan, 45, reported the incident to members of Binondo police station, who then proceeded to the area to confront the suspect. But Phi allegedly engaged the policemen in a brief chase.

Eventually, Police Cpls. Antonio Mangaoang Jr. and Jofer Umayam managed to capture the suspect.

Seized was a cal. 357 revolver and six live ammunition.

Phi will be facing appropriate charges, according to police. /kga
