4.1-magnitude quake sways Batanes

ITBAYAT, BATANES — A 4.1-magnitude tremor jolted Batanes province on Friday afternoon.

In its initial earthquake bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the earthquake struck 48 kilometers southwest of Sabtang town at 4:14 p.m.

The earthquake was of tectonic origin and had a depth of 22 km.

Employees of government offices here rushed out of their offices as at least five aftershocks were felt in the area. /lzb
