MANILA, Philippines — A convenience store manager received a warning from Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Friday who spotted the concessionaire near a university still selling alcoholic drinks.

This was a day after he ordered the cancellation of all business permits of stores in Manila selling alcoholic drinks within the 200-meter range of schools and universities.

“Hindi na pwede magbenta ng alak,” Moreno reminded the manager.
But Moreno assured it was just a random inspection and that he would give them more time to comply to the executive order.
“But it’s okay, don’t worry. This is just a random check para mabigyan kayo ng ample time to comply. You can continue doing business pero yung alak, hindi pwede kasi nasa 200 meter-range [ng school at university],” Moreno said.
Executive Order No. 17 signed by Moreno Thursday mandates the Bureau of Permits and License Office (BPLO), City Treasurer’s Office, and business establishments to strictly observe Ordinance No. 3532 and Ordinance No. 8520.
Ordinance No. 3532 prohibits the sale of intoxicating liquor within 200 meters of schools.
Ordinance No. 8520, on the other hand, prohibits the sale of any alcoholic beverage to minors in any commercial establishment in Manila. /muf
