Temporary burial sites better than mass graves for ‘Sendong’ bodies – DoH

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DoH) reiterated that burying decomposing bodies of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City flood victims in a temporary burial site was better than interring them in mass graves, a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM said Tuesday.

Assistant Health Secretary Dr. Eric Tayag was quoted as saying that if there would be requests to identify an unclaimed body in the future, the process would be much easier if it was properly buried in a temporary burial site.

Moreover, Tayag said that DoH wanted the victims to be given the proper burial rites.

He said that DoH would be sending cadaver bags to Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City to help delay the decomposition of dead bodies, Tayag said.
