MANILA, Philippines — The legal department of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) only had consultation with the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) over the sedition case filed against Vice President Leni Robredo and other 35 other individuals, Gen. Oscar Albayalde, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said on Wednesday.
“According to the director of CIDG, the legal department ng CIDG had a consultation with the legal department of OSG,” Albayalde, speaking partly in Filipino, said at a press conference in Camp Crame in Quezon City. “The OSG did not make it [the case]. They did not meddle.”
Albayalde noted that there was nothing unusual about seeking legal advice from the OSG.
“Remember, they are our lawyers,” he said. “There’s no irregularity that we go to OSG to seek legal opinion and legal advice for that matter.”
Last week, the CIDG filed a sedition case against Robredo and other opposition members over their alleged link to the “Ang Totoong Narcolist” videos, which implicated the family and allies of President Rodrigo Duterte to the illegal drugs trade.
