DID YOU KNOW: 102nd birth anniversary of Leonor Orosa-Goquinco

Today, July 24, is the 102nd birth anniversary of National Artist for Dance Leonor Orosa-Goquinco.

Known as the “Mother of Philippine Theater Dance” and “Dean of Filipino Performing Arts Critics,” she is a pioneer Filipino choreographer in balletic, folkloric and Asian styles.

She was honorary chair of the Association of Ballet Academies of the Philippines and founding member of the Philippine Ballet Theater.

She was named a National Artist for Dance in 1976. She died on July 15, 2005. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
