MANILA, Philippines — Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. reiterated his support on Tuesday for the restoration of the death penalty on cases involving plunder and illegal drugs.
“I personally support the President’s call to reinstate capital punishment for offenses related to drugs and plunder,” Revilla said in a statement.
“Dagdagan ko lang na dapat may parusa rin na kamatayan for those who falsely and maliciously accuse others of these offenses,” he added.
Revilla issued this statement a day after President Rodrigo Duterte made another push for the restoration of the capital punishment for heinous crimes related to drugs as well as plunder during his fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona).

As early as March this year, Revilla already said he is in favor of the imposition of capital punishment on plunder cases.
The senator himself had been accused of plunder in connection with the pork barrel scam. He was later acquitted by the Sandiganbayan.

Aside from the death penalty, Revilla also expressed support for other measures and pronouncements that the President made during his Sona.
“This Sona shows why the President continues to be endeared by the people. His candidness and no nonsense demeanor shows his continuous transparency,” he said.
“Kung susumahin, ang Sona ng Pangulo kahapon ay matibay na patunay na nananatiling buo ang suporta, tiwala, at pagmamahal ng sambayanang Pilipino sa pamumuno ni Pang. Duterte,” Revilla added. /muf
