MANILA, Philippines — There was no corruption in the entry of the third telco player, led by presidential friend and Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy, in the country.
Such was the assurance of President Rodrigo Duterte to the public when he delivered his fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
Mislatel Consortium, now known as Dito Telecommunity, was granted a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) in a ceremony in Malacañang last July 8.
“Do not worry about this. There is no corruption at all. I guarantee you. Upon the grave of my father I do not allow [corruption], I do not talk to them,” he claimed.
The government sought for a third player in the country’s telco industry in a bid to break the duopoly of PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom and improve the quality of telecommunications services in the Philippines. /kga
