Senate committee chairmanships settled – Sotto

MANILA, Philippines – Senate President Tito Sotto on Sunday said he believes the committee chairmanships in the Senate have been settled.

Sotto said Senator Imee Marcos would chair the electoral reforms committee.

Asked if there will be any conflict of interest with Marcos’ brother, Bongbong who has a pending electoral protest following his defeat in the 2016 vice presidential race, Sotto said the committee chairmanship has “nothing to do” with the protest.

“Wala namang kinalaman yung would be bills on the present protests that are pending. Walang kinalaman yung commitee. It has nothing to do with any of the protests that are pending,” Sotto said at the PDP-Laban-organized viewing party for the boxing match of Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Sotto added that the education committee will also be divided into two — the commitee on basic education and the committee on higher education and technical vocation.

“We have agreed already and also together with the minority leader that we will follow the way the House is handling the issue on education,” Sotto said.

“We’ll amend the rules. Hindi published kundi a resolution must be filed 24 hours before any rules are changed or voted upon,” he added.  /gsg
